12㎡ Luxury kitchen custom: Creating a happy cooking station

This customized project is located in a high-end residential community. The original kitchen was 12 square meters in size and was an independent space located on the first floor without natural light. The owner hopes to make the most of the storage space, ensure adequate lighting, and create a light luxury style space that is both beautiful and practical. Through precise spatial planning, scientific lighting design and high-quality material selection, we successfully transformed the originally problematic 12-square-meter space into a fully functional Shengda Happy Cooking Station, which received high recognition from the owner.

Core challenge: Breaking through the limitations of space and layout

• Insufficient natural lighting: As a low-rise kitchen without Windows, the lighting problem is quite prominent. Insufficient light can affect the cooking experience and even cause safety hazards during food preparation.
• Large storage requirements: For a family of five, there are a large number of tableware, POTS, pans, ingredients and snacks that need to be stored. The original storage space is far from meeting the needs.

Customized kitchen solutions

• Layout optimization: U-shaped layout + island cabinets

  We designed a U-shaped layout, combined with an island kitchen cabinet, to maximize the utilization of the space on three walls. We also formed an efficient "golden triangle" operation line between the refrigerator storage area, the sink washing area and the stove cooking area, ensuring smooth cooking operations.
  The island counter can serve as a simple dining table and is also equipped with an independent sink that can be used as a washing area. The kitchen adopts a double sink design. The main sink is used for cleaning POTS, pans and bowls, while the secondary sink is for cleaning vegetables and fruits, ensuring clear division of labor before and after meals and improving hygiene standards.

• Storage customization: Make the most of space

  In response to the large storage demand of the family, we adopted a combined storage design of wall cabinets, base cabinets and tall cabinets to maximize the use of vertical and horizontal space:
  1. Wall cabinets: Avoid the "dead corners" on top of traditional wall cabinets. Some wall cabinets are designed with glass door panels, which not only facilitate the display and access of frequently used tableware but also add a touch of fashion to the kitchen. Built-in light strips are installed inside the glass door cabinet to enhance the indoor atmosphere.
  2. Base cabinets: Drawer-type base cabinets are the main type, and drawers of different sizes can be customized according to the items stored. Drawers with a height of 120-160mm are used to store seasonings, while those with a height of 220-280mm are for POTS, pans and bowls, increasing the storage capacity by 30%.
  3. High cabinet: Install a high cabinet beside the refrigerator to store large items of food, small appliances such as microwave ovens, and seasonal tableware, making the kitchen look neat and orderly.

• Lighting design: Layered lighting up the space

  To address the issue of the lack of natural light, we have designed a multi-point and multi-level lighting layout to ensure that every corner of the kitchen is brightly lit
  1. Basic lighting: Soft downlights are installed on the ceiling to provide uniform and soft lighting throughout the kitchen space, avoiding dark areas.
  2. Task lighting: Install magnetic lights on the ceiling, use magnetic spotlights for precise supplementary lighting, and flexibly attach them to any position on the track to eliminate the shadows on the countertop when cutting vegetables or preparing meals, enhancing operational safety and comfort.
  3. Ambient lighting: The ceiling is formed by light strips stretching aluminum materials , creating a floating light effect. This enhances the layering and atmosphere of the space, making the kitchen without Windows no longer dull.

• Style customization and material selection

  In terms of style, we adopt a light luxury style. The cabinet ingeniously combines the misty matte white with the clear grey, which not only enhances the brightness of the space but also improves its texture. 
  In terms of materials, the cabinet body is made of E0 grade eco-friendly plywood, which is healthy and environmentally friendly, with good stability and moisture resistance, making it suitable for kitchen environments. The countertop is made of 20mm thick quartz stone, which is scratch-resistant, stain-resistant and durable. The edges are designed with slight rounded corners to prevent collisions. All hardware accessories are made of high-quality products, such as soft hinges and slide rails, which ensure smooth operation and a long service life.

Project outcome

After the project was completed, the 12-square-meter kitchen has been completely renovated. The U-shaped layout, equipped with an island counter and a multi-functional storage design, maximizes the utilization of space, and all items are neatly stored. The multi-point layered lighting design solves the problem of no natural light, keeping the kitchen bright and warm at all times.
